postdoc job openings at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany)

Two Postdoc Positions in Experimental Nonlinear Optics & Quantum Optics

Two postdoc positions are available in our laser laboratory in the Institute of Applied Physics at the Technical University of Darmstadt (Germany), dealing with coherent laser-matter interaction, nonlinear optics, and optical information storage/processing. The positions are available for a duration of 1-3 years, depending on the negotiations with the candidate. We offer attractive projects in a modern state-of-the-art laser laboratory, international co-operations, considerable research funds, lively atmosphere and team spirit, and a competitive salary, i.e. based on German standards for academics.

Darmstadt is located in the south-west of Germany, close to the city and the international airport of Frankfurt. Darmstadt is placed in a region with high population density, old and long history, strong economy, plenty of options for leisure activities, and a nice landscape (woodlands) as well as the beautiful city of Heidelberg, moreover Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, and Mannheim nearby.

The candidates are expected to participate in one of the following research projects : (a) enhancement of frequency conversion processes in coherently (adiabatically) driven atomic media; (b) implementation of coherent interactions for applications of optical data storage and processing in rare-earth doped solids. See http://www.quantumcontrol.de for details on our research projects and team.

For an application, please consider our requirements : (1) You should have an experimental background in at least one of the following fields : quantum optics, coherent interactions between light and matter, laser physics, nonlinear optics (frequency conversion processes), generation of vacuum-ultraviolet radiation, ultra-short laser pulses, optical information storage, physics of rare earth-doped solids. (2) You should have proven and profound management and communication skills. (3) Fluent English.

Please include the following documents in your application : (i) Statement of interest (please let us know, why you are interested in the announced position – and why do you think, you are an appropriate candidate for us ?); (ii) Statement on your management and communication skills; (iii) CV (also including a recent picture); (iv) Two letters of recommendation; (v) Publication list & list of talks at conferences; (vi) Please provide us with a phone number, so we can get in touch with you prior to a possible invitation.

If you meet the above criteria, we are very much looking forward to your application (preference : submitted as a pdf-file by email to thomas. halfmann@physik.tu-darmstadt.de)
