POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS to study the biophysics of microtubule motor proteins

POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS are now available at the University of Pennsylvania to study the biophysics of microtubule motor proteins and/or microtubule plus end dynamics using single molecule approaches. A Ph.D. in cell biology, biochemistry, biophysics, biological chemistry,
physics, or molecular biology is preferred. The funded position is part of a collaborative project between the laboratories of Dr. Erika Holzbaur and Dr. Yale E. Goldman, in the Dept. of Physiology in the School of Medicine and Pennsylvania Muscle Institute. The research involves the use of single molecule approaches both in vitro and in vivo to examine microtubule motor function and microtubule plus end dynamics in molecular detail.

postdoctoral positions in ultrafast dynamics in nanomaterials

We have two openings for postdoctoral fellows in the area ultrafast dynamics
in photovoltaic Nanomaterials. Our research in focused on interfacial charge
transfer processes in photovoltaic and photocatalytic nano-materials and at
solid/liquid interfaces. Nanomaterials of interest include semiconductor
(TiO2, CdSe..) and metal (Au and Ag) nanoparticles, thin films, and
nanocomposites. We also investigate charge transfer dynamics on bulk single
crystal surfaces and at single molecule/nanoparticle level to provide
further insight as well as to facilitate comparison with theoretical
studies. We are employing three spectroscopic methods to examine these
dynamics: 1) pump-probe transient absorption spectroscopy in the visible and
infrared in nanomaterials; 2) Second Harmonic and vibrational sum frequency
generation spectroscopy on single crystal surfaces; and 3) single
molecule/particle fluorescence spectroscopy.

Ofrecimiento Beca Estímulo en Astrofísica

El IAFE se encuentra en las primeras etapas de la instalación de un telescopio
propio en el Complejo Astronómico El Leoncito (CASLEO). Como parte de este
proyecto, se ofrece beca estimulo otorgada por la Asociación Argentina de
Astronomía. La duración de la beca es de dos meses (febrero y marzo de 2008)
y el estipendio es de $500 mensuales.

PhD position on joint project of University of Amsterdam and FOM Institute Rijnhuizen

Presently, a PhD position is open on a joint project between the Molecular
Photonics group of Prof. W.J. Buma at the University of Amsterdam and the
Molecular Dynamics group of Dr. J. Oomens at the FOM Institute Rijnhuizen.
The project is concerned with the development of new functional systems
that are responsive to exposure to a temperature above a threshold value
and/or exposure to UV light. One of the approaches employed is based on
discotic liquid crystals. The spectroscopic properties of the employed
molecular systems have been studied to some extent in solution, liquid, and
solid state, but the excited and ionic state, properties under isolated
conditions, and – in particular how they change upon aggregation – are
largely unknown.
